# Tantra practices

Tantra covers very different practices, from silent meditation to partner work. Every event, teacher and session on Tantradvisor is tagged with one or more of these seven practice families. Choose one to read what it involves and see who offers it.

## [Spiritual Energy](https://tantradvisor.com/en/practices/spiritual-energy)

Tantric energy work uses attention, breath, sound and visualisation to cultivate and direct subtle energy, which tantric traditions describe through chakras, channels (nadis) and kundalini. Sessions typically combine meditation, mantra, gentle movement and simple ritual. It is the most contemplative end of the tantra spectrum and is usually suitable for complete beginners.

## [Embodiment & Movement](https://tantradvisor.com/en/practices/embodiment-movement)

Embodiment practices bring attention into the body through movement, so that sensation, emotion and energy are felt directly rather than thought about. In tantra workshops this includes conscious and free dance, tantra-inspired yoga, shaking, somatic exercises and slow, mindful movement. No dance or yoga experience is needed: the aim is awareness, not technique.

## [Breathwork](https://tantradvisor.com/en/practices/breathwork)

Breathwork is the deliberate use of breathing patterns to change how the body and mind feel. In tantra it ranges from calm, yogic pranayama to connected or circular breathing that builds and moves energy through the body. Sessions often bring up strong sensations or emotions, which is why they are guided step by step and end with a period of rest and integration.

## [Relating & Communication](https://tantradvisor.com/en/practices/relating-communication)

Relating work applies tantric presence to the space between people. Through structured exercises such as eye gazing, honest sharing, boundary and consent practices, and couples work, participants learn to notice what they feel, ask for what they want and hear a no without collapse. It suits singles and couples and is often the first step before more intimate practices.

## [Sensuality & Touch](https://tantradvisor.com/en/practices/sensuality-touch)

Sensuality practices train presence through the senses, especially touch: giving and receiving mindful touch and massage with full attention and explicit consent. In tantra workshops this ranges from hand and back massage to full-body tantric massage taught step by step. Clothing and touch boundaries vary widely between events, so they should be stated clearly before you book.

## [Sexual Liberation](https://tantradvisor.com/en/practices/sexual-liberation)

Sexual liberation work uses tantric practice to explore sexuality with less shame and more awareness. Workshops combine education about desire, pleasure and arousal with breath, movement, reflection and, in some formats, partner exercises. All participation is optional, rules on clothing and touch are agreed in advance, and ethical facilitators do not have sexual contact with participants.

## [Traditional Philosophy](https://tantradvisor.com/en/practices/traditional-philosophy)

Traditional tantra refers to the Hindu and Buddhist tantric traditions of India and the Himalaya, transmitted through texts, lineages and teachers over more than a thousand years. Their practices centre on meditation, mantra, visualisation, ritual and philosophical study, such as the non-dual teachings of Kashmir Shaivism. Sexuality plays a far smaller role than in modern Western neo-tantra.
