# Guides

Practical, independent answers to the questions people ask before their first tantra workshop or retreat.

## [What is a tantra workshop? What to expect](https://tantradvisor.com/en/guides/what-is-a-tantra-workshop)

A tantra workshop is a guided group session, from a few hours to a weekend, that uses breath, movement, meditation and awareness exercises drawn from tantric traditions to deepen presence, connection and intimacy. Most introductory workshops are fully clothed, keep any touch light and clearly agreed, and treat every exercise as optional, but formats vary, so read each event's description before you book.

## [How to choose a tantra teacher, workshop or retreat](https://tantradvisor.com/en/guides/how-to-choose-a-tantra-teacher)

Choose a tantra teacher the way you would choose anyone who works with your body and emotions: check their training and experience, read exactly what the event involves, look for clear agreements on consent and boundaries, and notice how they answer your questions before you book. Tantra teaching is not regulated, so this judgement is yours to make.

## [Consent and safety at tantra events](https://tantradvisor.com/en/guides/consent-and-safety-at-tantra-events)

At a well-run tantra event every exercise is optional, touch only happens after an explicit yes, anyone can stop at any moment, and the facilitators never have sexual contact with participants. If something feels wrong you can leave without explaining yourself, and you can report it to the organiser and, if the event was listed on Tantradvisor, to support@tantradvisor.com.
